Why I support BEN by Andrew Humberstone, MD, Fiat UK

Fiat MDAndrew J. Humberstone, managing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland, joined Fiat in the UK during November 2007.

Andrew, who holds a PhD in Business Administration, began his wide-ranging career as an equity dealer in Johannesburg before joining the automotive sector. He has since worked in several roles with both the luxury and volume brands across the globe, including Mercedes-Benz in South Africa, Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen in Saudi Arabia, and Fiat Group Automobiles in India and China.

Most recently, he was Chief Representative for Fiat Group Automobiles in Nanjing and CEO of Nanjing Fiat.

A keen sportsman, accomplished horseman and staunch supporter of the countryside and country pursuits, 44-year-old Mr Humberstone is also a devoted family man with three young children, and, together with his wife, retains a long-held enthusiasm for charitable giving and charity work.

With special reference to BEN, Andrew is typically unequivocal in his views: "As a long-standing member of the auto industry, I feel it's absolutely right that we should vigorously support our own charity which strives to assist those in or connected to the industry who are so much less fortunate than ourselves.

"It's a little known fact that BEN is currently helping more than 15,000 men, women and children connected to the motor industry, and that it costs more than £11 million simply to maintain the current level of care.

"Corporate social responsibility has become a buzzword with business, but by supporting BEN, our organisation is caring about the industry it operates in, and demonstrates the responsibility we are taking for its long-term prosperity.

"Supporting BEN also shows our employees that we care about their welfare, as by supporting BEN we are ensuring resources are available should they ever need to call on them."
