Volunteering at events also gives me the opportunity to see all the shows and get in for free!"
Past/present occupation
Regional Service Manager at MG Rover.
How did you hear about BEN?
Through being a member of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), when BEN raffles were held at some of our meetings. I also saw BEN stands at some of the automotive events I attended with MG Rover.
Why did you decide to support us?
Having worked in the industry for 40 years, I wanted to give something back, and BEN was the logical charity to support. Meeting the residents at Town Thorns and seeing at first hand some of the problems they faced also made me aware of the need for BEN and its work.
When did you become a volunteer and why?
I became a volunteer in 1999. I already supported BEN as a Centurion (now BENGold) and there was an article in the newsletter about becoming a volunteer. I thought that volunteering would be a good way for me to meet old colleagues, as well as providing me with networking opportunities.
What volunteering do you do?
I help out at a number of events, including motor shows and automotive exhibitions. My favourite shows are the NEC events, such as the Autosport Show and the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show. Together with other volunteers, I support the BEN Events Team by selling national car and bike draw tickets, raising awareness of BEN, fundraising and generally having an enjoyable time. Volunteering at events also gives me the opportunity to see all the shows and get in for free!
What would you say to anyone thinking of volunteering?
It's an ideal opportunity to meet people with shared interests, help those within our industry in times of need and work together towards a common cause. I've found volunteering lots of fun and if I didn't believe that BEN was a great cause, I would certainly be spending my time with other hobbies.
