Marcus and James Complete Their Epic Cycle for BEN

Marcus and James Congratulations to Marcus and James who have completed their gruelling cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for BEN.

Throughout their challenge Marcus has been texting updates to BEN's press office and you can read about the journey in his own words below.

31 May 10pm: Hard 225 m and 5700 ft climbing with stiff headwind! Stopped just north of Bristol as we got our distance calculations wrong. Legs are ok but tomorrow will be tough. Lots of sun and fine views but little time to look.

2 June 6.15 am: Only 190 miles today as it was windy and we hand to take it steady. We're beginning to feel a bit tired overall. Hotter than yesterday but a lot less hills and nicer A Roads rather then dual carrigeways which was pleasant but slower. Wind finally dropped after 140 miles so we could ease up a bit. 460 miles to go with early start tomorrow.

2 June 1pm: Warm day but wind is a lot less now. Rode over Shap in the Lake District and just north of Carlisle aiming for Pitlochry. 125 miles to go today.

3 June 3pm: We were almost on track yesterday but James's knees are very sore and not helped by more headwind. He had 8 ibuprofen! Fantastic views in Lake District including Shap and Scotland 1000ft Devils Beef Tub Pass.

Long day- finished at 9.30 after being guided towards Forth Bridge by Edinburgh Racing Club. Only just across bridge then stopped so looks like five days after all as we have 280 miles to go. Feeling fatigued now after 36 hours ride time.

Making good progress today. Aiming for Inverness and can maybe go 10miles north. A few big passes today with 500m elevation. Great views and lots of painkillers for James!

4 June 1pm: Just done a 200m climb out of Helmsdale 50miles to go. Colder with a few showers and still windy but occasional welcome tailwind. I'm spending most of the time at the front!

4 June 5.30pm: We did it! A bit wet today but OK. About 54 hours riding in total. 4 ½ days in the end. Tough ride with a bit of tailwind finally. Big thanks to all the sponsors so far.
