"I enjoy being in a working environment...It makes me feel good about myself"

Past/present occupation
NHS Haemotologist.

How did you hear about BEN?
My husband lived at one of BEN's residences.

How long have you been volunteering?
Four years.

Why did you decide to support us?
BEN provides a home and support for me and my husband, so I wanted to give something back. Adam, BEN's National Volunteers Co-ordinator, came and talked to me about volunteering opportunities and I liked what he said. I had taken early retirement but wanted to keep active in the workplace without the pressure of paid work.

What type of volunteering do you do?
I assist Adam with a variety of office based tasks, including recruiting new volunteers.

What would you say to anyone thinking of volunteering?
There are a variety of roles available, and you can get training and lots of encouragement.

What do you enjoy most in your volunteer work?
I enjoy just being in a working environment and being accepted as a work colleague by my team. It makes me feel good about myself.

If you're interested in volunteering your time and/or skills to BEN, please call Adam Hanrahan, National Volunteers Co-ordinator, on 01344 294719 or email adam.hanrahan@ben.org.uk
