Care staff at Town Thorns, our nursing and residential centre near Rugby, have won a ‘Better Ways of Working' award at the Voice of Care - Embracing Change Awards hosted by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for Care. Our Day Care Centre in Coventry also won an award as Best Care Organisation.
Frail or disabled residents often need a liquid diet and it's difficult for them to have an appetite for something which is unrecognisable. Staff at Town Thorns were determined to help residents enjoy their meals and make them more appetising, and set about making the food thicker so it could be moulded. Now, not only can the residents taste they are eating fish and chips but they can also see it. This idea has had a positive reaction from the residents with many more happily participating in meal times. This is praise enough for our team but they were also delighted to hear that they had won an award for their ingenuity.
The BEN Day Care Centre, Arthur Wilson House in Coventry, wasn't left out either as the team came second in the category for 'Best Care Organisation'. The centre was recognised for its ongoing commitment to training, and for displaying an example of positive teamwork. We are all particularly pleased with this recognition as the Day Centre team is small, with full and part time staff. But nothing is too much of a challenge for our super staff. Well done to all involved, we are very proud. Your hard work shows our supporters how we view our commitment to delivering the best.
"At BEN we are extremely proud of the work undertaken by the staff in our centres - it is their passion and dedication that sets us apart from other care providers," says Jenny Brown, Director of Care Services. "They are flexible and adaptable to the needs of our residents and often come up with new ways of delivering excellence. It is always satisfying to see their efforts recognised by external groups."
