The mission: to buy a Japanese or korean car for £500 or less and complete a 2,000-mile rally from Kent to Lisbon in seven days. The purpose: to raise money for BEN and other charities.
The Blue Print Rally, organised by Robert Head, Marketing Controller of Automotive Distributors Ltd (ADL) took place in May, raising more than £7,000 for BEN. The rally saw 23 teams travel from ADL head office in Kent, to its Portuguese office in Lisbon over seven days. That's no mean feat, especially as many of the cars cost less than an iPod!
Chris Jeffries, ADL Chairman, said he had never seen so many different factions of the aftermarket sector coming together and doing anything like this. The rally was a great success, and despite some awful weather along the way, all 23 teams made it to Lisbon on the seventh day with brilliant sunshine, lots of handshakes between teams and plenty of hugs. Awards were presented at the end of the rally, with first place Car of the Rally awarded to 'The Beach Boys' team, and the grand prize, 'The Spirit of the Rally', awarded to the 'A.W.O.L' team.
The money raised will all go towards continuing BEN's vital work. We'd like to say a big thank you to ADL and all the participants for taking part in such a fun and imaginative way.
