Lynwood Nursing and Residential Centre, located in Sunninghill, Berkshire, has been awarded a quality rating of excellent service following an unannounced inspection by the Commission for Social Care (CSCI) last month. This is the highest rating that can be awarded to a registered care home.
There are currently 47 care homes in the Windsor and Maidenhead Local Authority area, and Lynwood is one of only 10 homes awarded with excellent status. Among those homes in the area that offer care for old age and dementia, there are just three with excellent status - of which, Lynwood is one.
The inspector, Mrs. Helen Dickens, was hugely impressed with the quality of care giving and level of therapeutic activities available at Lynwood. As she detailed in the report, "Lynwood offers a pleasant, homely and comfortable environment for residents to enjoy. The home is kept fresh and clean and residents commented positively on their surroundings. Remarks such as ‘The food is nice' and ‘My room is lovely' were typical. One wrote ‘I rate this as the Rolls Royce of residential homes'. Staff were friendly and helpful and there were a number of compliments from residents and relatives about the staff and manager." Complimentary comments were also made about Lynwood's cleanliness, quality of food, freshness of décor, record keeping and training.
Lynwood is one of five care centres owned by BEN, the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund. Jenny Brown, BEN's Director of Care Services, commented, ‘I am delighted and very proud that Lynwood has been awarded excellent status. It is a tribute to Lynwood's matron, Julie Way, and every single member of staff. The care and domestic teams work tirelessly to provide our residents with a home rather than just a place to live. Our programme of additional services such as on site hairdressers, physiotherapy and regular social activities and trips all add to this.'
